Last Fall I took a social documentary class at UT for my Radio-TV-Film major. For the class I made a film about Austin's animal shelter, Town Lake Animal Center, and Austin Pets Alive!, an animal rescue group working toward making Austin a no-kill city.

My film has been selected as one of 33 films and PSAs out of 234 submissions worldwide to screen at the Lights. Camera. Help. Nonprofit Film Festival here in Austin.

The event takes place in different venues in Austin July 29, 30, and 31st.  My film, "Shelter", will screen on Saturday the 31st sometime between 2 and 5pm.  Tickets are $12 for a one day pass, $20 for a 2 day pass, and $30 for a 3-day pass. Tickets can be bought here: http://lch2010.eventbrite.com/

Three $1000 prizes will be awarded to benefit the organization featured in each film.  If we win, our award would go to Austin Pets Alive.

Saturday screening is scheduled from 2-5pm, afterparty is at 7pm.

Saturday location at: Space 12, 3121 East 12th Street, Austin, TX‎ -(512) 524-7128

Yeah I'm hopefully going to search for other festivals that are either free to enter or somewhat cheap, since I'm low on moneys. Some festivals can get pricey just to enter your film.

Sounds great!  Will you have the opportunity to enter it into other film festivals?

Hey guys,

The screening went really well! We didn't get the prize but it still went over pretty well. Everyone got emotional during the film and we met some people who want to show it to city council before the vote on the next shelter related ordinance. I'm going to try to get dvds out to people who want to see it.  It might get posted on the Austin Pets Alive website and I'm going to try to get it on youtube or something, once I move in to my new place and get my computer back up and figure out the best way to compress this thing for the web.

That is great news about your film being shown!  Chris and I were sorry we weren't able to go.  Where can we see it?  Is it posted on YouTube?

Hey Kelly...If I feel better (I have a cold) and can scrape up $12, I will be there...so far, nobody has responded about going :(((

Hey, the tickets are sold out online but you can get them at the door for $12. It's from 2-5pm, my film will be playing somewhere in there. It's about 18 minutes long. Then the after party at 7pm.

Everything located at:

Space 12, 3121 East 12th Street, Austin, TX‎ -(512) 524-7128

I plan to attend, so who wants to go with me and/or go together?
