Dorinda Pulliam leaving Town Lake Animal Center position
From Austin Chronicle's City Hustle column:
… It came out this week that Dorinda Pulliam, the Town Lake Animal Center director, is leaving her post to work on “high level Departmental and City Corporate projects” before retiring in January 2010, according to a city memo. Pulliam “is being assigned to assist with special projects in other divisions within the department and other corporate level projects,” reads the memo from H&HS director David Lurie. The announcement comes at a critical time for Austin animal services, with the recent adoption of “no-kill” guidelines, last week's groundbreaking for the city's new animal center in East Austin, and a heated debate between advocates and staff over when to vaccinate incoming strays. Her assistant director slot at Animal Services will be filled on an interim basis by Bruce Mills.

So, what does this mean for TLAC? Hell if I know. I'll be attending a meeting tomorrow at 12:30 at City Hall to discuss this issue and other's facing TLAC and the "no kill" policy.
Will report back findings. Of course, if you would like to attend, let me know ;)

I'm pretty sure that I heard from another volunteer that it was about her time to retire. All this new reform is probably too stressful for her. APA should just run the shelter.
Wendy and I went to the City Hall meeting and it was, sad to say, relatively a waste of time. Thank God for Pat Valls-Treres and whoever the main speaker was being there. It was just bickering and complaining which does no good for the animals. Anyway, I did talk to some people there and made some connections, so wasn't a total waste.
As far as Dorinda's position goes, looks like TLAC has hired a search firm to find someone for her position. They are looking at a time frame of 4-6 months to fill the position. I wonder if Dorinda was booted out or resigned herself. Who knows???
She doesn't have many fans in the no-kill shelter movement here in austin. many ppl also wanted to keep the shelter where it was but Dorinda wanted it moved. Hmmm. Keep us updated on this story, Timothy.
