Friends:
I wanted to let you know that I visited Sunny Day Farms this weekend to visit the animals and help Brooke out at the farm. I had a great time with the animals, made many new friends, of course, and helped as much as I could around the farm. It was really HOT and the work was semi-grueling for someone out of shape like me :(((
Anyway, what I most wanted to talk about was the farm and how Brooke "Angel for Animals in Need" Chavez and the farm are unfortunately facing some very difficult times. There is talk that Brooke might even have to sell the farm and, thus, find new homes for the animals if things don't get better. This is solely due to financial and day-to-day upkeep at concerns.
I want to put out this e-mail to ask everyone to please do everything, and anything, you can to help keep Sunny Day Farms stay open. It is the only farm we have in Texas that is helping farm animals. These animals have been given a better life because of Brooke, and I think we owe it to her to help out during this difficult time.
Please let me or Brooke know what you are willing to do as far as volunteering your time, donations, etc. Even if you can go up to the farm for an hour or less, it would make a huge difference to the animals there. If we could come up with a schedule where we alternate people every other weekend to go to the farm to help out, that would be cool, I think ;)
Let's not give up on Sunny Day Farms, as they have not given up on the animals who desparately needed a second chance.
Thanks everybody!
Timothy
PS: If you have any specific ideas in mind as far as getting the word out about SDF or any fundraising ideas, etc., please share them with us. We need to raise our voices for the animals who have no voice.

I could've misheard her though. Can't remember if it was 2000 a month or year. I'll get confirmation on this and then get back to everyone.
Yeah, that seems doable. I'm glad she quoted you the figure, Neel, because she didn't mention it to me. Good to know! ;)
She said she need $2000 a year to keep to farm going, which isn't much.
I think we need to get a better idea of how much $$$ SDF uses on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. that way we'll have a better idea of what type of fundraiser will bring in the most money.
Timothy: can you ask Brooke for some figures? thx.
You can visit sunnydayfarms.com for more information about the farm. I don't think the Animal Issues Forum would be a good idea, as they already have their agenda set up. We will, however, have a volunteer day/shooting next Saturday at SDF and can spend some time brainstorming then. Thanks to everybody for lending their voice to the SDF cause ;)))
I am not familiar with SDF, but have you considered making plans to attend Pat Vals Trelles' next meeting re: Animal Issues Forum? She might be willing to put in on the agenda for the meeting. They are sometimes well attended and people might be able to brainstorm. Also, how many animals are we talking about? And what kind are they? Is it prudent to start thinking about back up sanctuaries/rehoming of some of the animals?
@Warren -- I think that is an excellent idea. Do you think you could take charge of that? It looks like there are a lot of people that want to do something. Now we just need somebody to take the lead and get the ball rolling.
K guys I have a great idea. I don't know if you guys have an event set up already or not but we could do it a cheer up charlies. I know Tamara the lady that owns it and I am sure that she wouldn't mind at all. Also the bar is completely vegan and now the vegan yacht so accomodations shouldn't be a problem. They have a lot of benefits there and I see Tamara a lot and I want to see we are pretty cool. I am sure she would let us have a benefit/fundraisor there. Just let me know what you guys think and we could also have live music there and even a mini garage sell (i would have to ask) but let me know what you guys think.

Great, Neel!!! Thanks for doing all this. I think it can only help ;))
Hey all!
It's really nice to see everyone discussing fundraising opportunities for the farm! I just talked to Brooke and it looks like we're going to have a big volunteer event Saturday July 17th. I will also be shooting some footage for a promotional video for the farm. This video could be sent to potential donors who could help increase SDF's financial support! So please notify the your friends who may be interested in volunteering or being on camera! The bigger the turnout, the better the video and the more help Brooke will receive on her farm. So save the date: Saturday July 17th!
You can join the facebook event here:

And Timothy can you post this on the page where all AFA members can see it. I don't know how to do that.
Thanks!
I mean, me and Chris were suggesting a garage sale, not actually doing one ourselves. I'd be willing help out and donate some stuff if someone has one.
Me and Chris were talking about doing a garage sale. I have stuff I could donate for a garage sell if someone has one.
Also, has she thought about putting up flyers at Green in San Antonio about donations or to promote the farm? that would be a great place to help get the word across.
Do you know if the animals need blankets, towels, etc? We could have a drive where people donate such items. Food bowls, food, things like that,
I didn't me to come across snide. I wasn't trying to be. Just hopeful.
Cool, it would be fun and help out the farm. Just let me know the date and I will fire up the oven and the mixer. :)
I mean, it's the least we can do. I don't think we will be able to make the huge numbers that she needs but we can contribute as much as we can. Maybe we can do more than one?
Any other fundraising ideas?
Maybe we could get restuarant or something to have one of those fundraiser nights where a small percentage of what they make that night gets donated?
Cool! Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that it might be too low of money to do it. Anything is better than nothing!!! ;)))
Maybe Ernest can check his Austin calendar and see if there is an event coming up that would be a big attendance function and where we can table???
The Haiti Bake Sale made over a $1000. I thnk even if we made $200 or $500, it is better than no money at all.
We just need to start brainstorming. Finding a place, spreading the word about the bake sale, even have an additional donation jar for the farm. Vegans love baked goods.
As I mentioned, I love to bake, and am willing to make cookies, cupcakes, etc.
Well, I can't make anything but I'd be willing to help out. I wonder how much can be expect financially by having a bake sale. I believe the previous one we had brought in over $200. Is that right? Not to put words in Brooke's mouth, but the way she described things to me, her financial situation is extremely dismal and $200, though generous, may not be the ballpark she needs for financial assistance :(((
Thanks. I am up for baking some goodies. We would just need to find a place to hold the bake sale. And then spread the word.
The bakesales in the past have been great and quite successful. Why not? It would be fun and help out Sunny Day Farms.
Lets start working on it. :)
I think a bake sale is a really great idea. It seems like all of the other ones have been really successful.
