This is really appalling to hear, bingosmommie (your name?), but not surprising.  AFA is more than willing to help you in ways we can.  Maybe you can get likeminded El Paso individuals together and start a group to speak out against Petland and other pet stores.  By all means, be vocal and don't go down with a good, peaceful fight.  When we raise our voices together, amazing things start to happen.  Even one voice raised can create a change :)))

First off, congrats on Austin passing the ban. El Paso, TX. city council will be voting on a pet store ban August 10^th. We here in El Paso are in dire need of some help getting the ban to pass. Yesterday our local humane society announced that they will be speaking to city council before the vote and are opposing this ban. I am dumbfounded that the largest animal voice and representative for our city’s animals is opposed to the ban because “they don’t want to ruffle the feathers of our small businesses”. The only store in town that sells puppies and kittens is, of course, Petland. Some of the board members on our local humane society has aspirations to run for political office in our city and are using their position as a stepping stone to their political career and alienating even one small business could cost future votes. I am ashamed that these board members are putting their political agenda before the lives of the animals. Anyone with any suggestions to help us would be greatly appreciated.
