Just read this great article about West Hollywood banning the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores...yay for my home state getting something right! I wanted to share this in the spirit of what Action for Animals is constantly working towards. Once we have legislature behind us setting positive precedents like this as well as making the public aware of what they're REALLY supporting when they buy from a pet store, we have some powerful forces supporting our work and advocacy. I am looking forward to the conversations and advocacy this landmark legislation will have on our efforts in the state of Texas.
A reminder to all...ADOPT from your local animal shelter! As a volunteer at the Austin Humane Society, I can attest to the WONDERFUL furry friends there and the fabulous care they receive. You get a well loved, well socialized animal who will give you nothing but a lifetime of love!

This is great news! I caught the news the other night (a rare occurrence for me) and there was a feature on the kill rate in Austin and how Austin Pets Alive wants Austin to be no-kill. Closing down stores like Petland would be a good start!!! :)))
Great news to hear. Now if we could get them to pass a ban like that here and a law to shut down puppy mills in Texas. Have a great week. :)
Hi CaliAustin - Thx for letting us know about this. Sry to say that Austin is not the most progressive city in on animal issues but that's what AFA is for. Let's keep going for it, tho.
