I just saw this and wanted to post it right away.  There will be an animal issues forum at City Hall tomorrow.  There are two sessions -- one in the afternoon and one in the evening.  The following information comes from http://animalissuesforum.org/ -- see their site for more details.

"When: June 23, 2009, 11:30am - 1pm and 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Where: City Hall

You can park in the parking garage under City Hall (entrance is on Lavaca, between Cesar Chavez and 2nd street). Lavaca is a one way street going north. Take either the elevator or the stairs up to the street level, go through the metal detectors and then look for the City Clerk's office on the first floor. The City Clerk will validate your parking sticker. (You do not need to worry about this for the evening session, only for the lunchtime session.)

Chris Riley, newly-elected City Council member, will be attending the lunchtime session.

Budget To-Do List: What, How and Why?

Jackie Goodman, former City Council Member, will be speaking at the evening session. She will be talking about the ins and outs of the budget process and how we can be most effective in advocating for animals with City Council Members as they move toward final passage of the budget on September 14.

At both sessions we will be discussing the city staff's proposed cuts to spay/neuter services and feral cat programs in next year's budget.

Amy Mills of Emancipet will be speaking at both sessions about spay/neuter services provided by Emancipet and the impact that the proposed cuts to Emancipet will have on programs providing spay/neuter services for low income residents of Austin. Also scheduled to speak are Julia Hilder and Missey Morgan (feral cat trappers) and Gretchen Meyer (Austin Pets Alive!) and Chandra Lewnau (long time TLAC volunteer and member of Fix Austin's core group).

We will have a facilitator to keep us on track.

It is not necessary that you RSVP but if people who are coming let me know, it will help us plan better. Please email me at patvt5@gmail.com and let me know which session you are planning to attend."

I attended this City Hall meeting and felt it was very informative. Poor Chris Riley came for a lunch meeting on his first day and people wanted answers from him. My take us that the hand doesn't know what the feet are doing. Too many cooks in the kitchen make for a budgeting nightmare. Lots of kind volunteers are available but no cohesive group. Seems like the animal shelter can't get dogs adopted, but are great at putting animals down. Money is tight, but of course it is, they just designated 5 million to the Asian networking alliance group. Our priority is not animals here. But it can be.
