Counter Culture (the new all-vegan food trailer) has been open for a couple weeks now, and Chris and I finally had a chance to give it a try.  We both give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!  It appears we're not the only ones, either -- do a quick Google search on "counter culture vegan trailer austin" and you'll see that word is spreading like wildfire about this terrific new destination for vegan eats.  Way to go Suepurrr for making this happen!

I am in no way qualified to write a restaurant review, but I will mention that I had the Philly Seitan with Mango Quinoa salad while Chris had the raw Bruschetta with Caesar salad -- both highly recommended.  Check out the Counter Culture MySpace page for more photos and a complete menu.

From the MySpace page:

"Counter Culture is a vegan and raw foods concession trailer in Austin, Texas. An emphasis on organic ingredients is based on Counter Culture's dedication to sustainable development. Additionally, the eatery procures local foods when possible, reducing their dependence on fossil fuels used for transportation. Being all vegan, Counter Culture furthers their dedication to the environment as well as making delicious food that is cruelty-free. Chef Sue Davis has over 5 years experience managing kitchens and cooking in Los Angeles, California. She has a large repertoire of vegan and raw comfort foods that will delight vegetarians as well as meat-eaters. Customers will be able to order meat-free versions of their favorite dishes or try some of Sue's latest seasonal specials. Although vegan doesn't always mean healthy, Sue will be emphasizing on nutritious unprocessed foods, recognizing the trend within the community for the demand of whole foods without artificial ingredients, allergens, and pesticides."

I made a return trip to Counter Culture two weekends ago.  This time I had the JackFruit BBQ sandwich and Quesadillas.  Two thumbs way up on both counts!

Do you have a non-vegan in your life that you want to give a little push in the right direction?  Take them out to Counter Culture.  Don't tell them the food is vegan -- just tell them to order and enjoy.  He/she will be a believer, guaranteed.  Now that's activism!

Yay, I finally made it to counter culture the other night....it was DELICious!! Thanks Sue for sharing your fantastic food with us, I had the philly seitan and caesar salad....yum yum I'll be back for sure!!

That sounds sooo good! I need to drag away from Slaughter Lane and get up north to try Counter Culture : )

I am going to review Counter Culture for the VegAustin.com August feature of the month! Very excited for the philly seitan!
