Ringling Bros Circus is coming to Austin from August 18-22nd. Action for Animals will be organizing a number of events to raise awareness about cruelty to animals in circuses. You can help by attending these events, participating in making calls and writing letters, and by helping us reach as many folks about this campaign as possible.

If you haven't already seen the photos taken by a former Ringling Bros' employee inside Ringling's breeding and training facility, then please see them now. They are powerful and they are the first time anyone has ever seen how Ringling trains their baby elephants.

Our opening night demonstration is Wednesday, August 18th from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. This will be a peaceful and legal demonstration on the sidewalk along the west side of the Frank Erwin Center. We have signs and banners. Our goal is to get 100 people to attend this demo. Help us reach that goal by inviting friends, co-workers and family.

We will also be leafletting one hour before each show on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 19-22. We have leaflets for these events. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ANY ANIMAL RIGHTS T-SHIRTS TO LEAFLETTING EVENTS. PLEASE DO NOT BRING SIGNS TO LEAFLETTING EVENTS. We want people to take our leaflets but they will not if they know who you are. For more info on our leafletting events, please see our events page.

How can you help now make this a success campaign?

  1. Become a member of Action for Animals on this website. Create a profile for yourself and stay up to date on our anti-Ringling Bros campaign.
  2. Visit this website and our events page often to find out what you need to do to help us with this campaign.
  3. Tell your friends about this campaign. Email them this link so they can make plans now to attend our demo and leafletting events.
  4. Friend us on Facebook. We're at Action for Animals Austin. I have demo info on our page now. Please "like" us and "share" that blog with your friends.
  5. We'll be asking you to make calls and write letters soon. Step-by-step instructions will be provided on how to do this. We know that writing letters and making calls are the best methods of reaching public officials and the media so this is an important way for you to get involved.
  6. Donate to Action for Animals. We'll have expenses for this campaign. You can help by going to our donation page and making a generous tax-deductible contribution now.
  7. We'll be putting up a few flyers on this website about our demo and leafletting event. Please download them, print them and pass them out.
  8. Be nice. When speaking to friends, family and co-workers about abuse to animals in circuses it helps to not be self-righteous or judgmental. Remember, you and I were raised believing that it was acceptable to use animals for entertainment so be compassionate when discussing this issue.
  9. Give us feedback on how we can do a better job of reaching folks about this campaign. Is there a local website like Craigslist where we can post info? Let us know.

Check back soon on more ways to help stop animal abuse in circuses. Thank you for speaking up for those who can't.

I found this link to parking garages near the Erwin Center http://www.uterwincenter.com/maps/parking.html. No details on costs to parking but they always charge at least $5.00 to park.
