Finally, after years and years of urging action on the use, or rather, overuse, of antibiotics on factory farms, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) is moving to eliminate or reduce their use.

Factory farms have used antibiotics for decades to promote growth and prevent disease in cows, pigs, and chickens. However, those very drugs remain in these animals and are then "consumed" by meat eaters when they eat factory farmed animal flesh. Later, any illness in meat eaters requiring the use of these same antiobitics may not be effective thus creating difficult to treat, drug resistant infections.
