I like a good veggie dog every once in a while. It's a quality American tradition - grilling dogs, warming buns, squeezing mustard for taste, maybe a nice relish garnish. Well, what could be more American than eating veggie dogs on the Fourth of July, while we celebrate America by knowing that it could, among other things, be so much better if we all became vegan. We would have more of an excuse to stuff our faces knowing that we aren't contributing to a destructive food system based on exploiting animals. Here is info for the event and how you can enter to be the next veggie dog eating master:

Then there was some random day in June of 2008.
Can anything prepare us for this year’s ultimate day of reckoning?
We’ve seen what the giant veggie dog can do by itself. It can pick people up and look like its going to eat them. It can get very angry and crack the ground just by stomping around.
But what will happen when it comes back to our city with a whole army of its kind?

It was blazing hot outside, but we still managed to have fun. Congratulations to Shawn for an impressive showing in his rookie season. We salute you! No less important: congratulations to Michelle for bringing home the Best Hat award! Does anybody have any pictures they can post?
I had such a great time at this event this year!!! Looks like Mike and Christopher's last veggei hot dog eatin' contest. I'm bummed. Anyway, if u went, I hope you enjoyed urselves.

After the long, hard afternoon of hot dog eating I would like to invite everyone over to our place to continue the party. Our apartment is a short walk from the Tiniest Bar in Texas. Bring your bathings suits if you would like to use the pool! It will also be a great place to watch the fireworks - and we have snacks, drinks and vegan chocolate cupcakes!

Sounds fun! I marked the date on my calendar. I might just have to be a spectator, though. I like a good veggie dog, but I don't know if my eating skills are in the 'competitive' category.
