It was no ordinary day at work for Austin resident, Vicki McCauley. On Tuesday she discovered a mutilated dog found near a Northwest Austin dumpster by her work. She suspects it was a pit bull that appears to have been burned, a likely case of abuse. Read the KXAN coverage of this story here.

If you know anything about what happened to this poor dog, please call 311 and report it. We cannot let this dog's abuser get away with this. This kind of animal treatment is unacceptable in a civilized society.

I remember this, peoples inhumanity never ceases to amaze me.  :((

oh oh...sorry for all that crazy language before the contact info ;)

I'm sorry I missed the vigil...I'm glad we got coverage...Vicki, what do you suggest we all do to help further this cause?

I look forward to seeing you again my sweet friend:)

I will be there.  Thanks, Vicki, for organizing this.  What a sad discovery.  I was gone from Austin for about a month, and it breaks my heart to come home to this kind of thing, but I know it is happening no matter where we are in this world.  God, bless this animal and guide us in how we can help bring justice for this precious, innocent creature of yours.

This is wonderful:)

i'll be there. wow, everyone is so on the ball about this. wonderful.

Thank you eksatx:)

I started this forum topic so we can discuss and plan a vigil.

At the dumpster where I found her.

I think that is a great idea Vicki - where should it be?

I would like to have a vigil for Sweetie next Friday @ 8 in the evening.  I'm open for suggestions.  I would like to bring flowers, etc.......

The PETA blog is here.

They are offering a $2500.00 reward to help find the person (or people) who commited this crime.

YAY! great work everyone. let's keep up the heat.

I forwarded this link to a cruelty caseworker at PETA and here is her response:

"PETA will be blogging about this horrific case and offering a reward. We appreciate your concern and interest in the case."

I will keep an keep an eye on PETA's blog and post it here when it has been updated to include this story.

I spoke with Alan Schwettmann (animal cruelty specialist)    972-6034

alan.schwettmann@ci.austin.tx.us

He was the one helping me, let's all call him and see what is going on with this case.

Good to finally get some answers and it's assuring that so many people spoke out. Thanks to Vicki, I have a little more faith in the public in condemning such vile acts against animals.

Thanks to everyone for being so persistent with this matter.  I was just not going to back down off this case.  Being vigilant will win out.
