Michael Markarian at the Humane Society Legislative Fund (lobbying arm of the Humane Society of the U.S.) has written an excellent blog post about how to lobby effectively for animals. Political work is something we have discussed is important for this group. It's also part of our civic duty to speak out for animals, just like voting.

Go here to read his 11 tips.

These tips could also apply to any issue you may want to lobby for. If you don't think it's important to voice your opinion to your lawmakers in D.C., consider the fact that the agribusiness industry has tons of paid lobbyists on the Hill trying to secure their cruel industry of mistreating animals. Animals need our voice, and it doesn't take much to send a letter to your member of Congress. If you need ideas on what to say, go to HSUS and take action.

All your enthusiasm, efforts, and determination are great. Very glad to find so many 'animal people' nearby, who are also willing to do something!

that's wonderful. i'd love to know more about that effort. please blog about it if you get time! :)

YES! This is great...THLN is quite productive at this and I have helped go "door to door" at the Capitol with them a couple of times. I am going start writing potential candidates for the next Texas governor election and voice my concerns over animal rights and a few laws I'd like to see introduced and passed.

Great article. Thanks for sharing.
