My name is Brooke Chavez and I am the founder and director of Sunny Day Farms. I have been rescuing and providing sanctuary for farmed animals for ten years now and I can make no choice but to fight the tide of the (drowning) masses, our biggest challenge and most important battle against the most atrocious of 'civilizations'crime; to fight and win against hundreds of years of chosen individual ignorant cruelty(factory farming), a brainwashing which cultivates numbness, the ability to look the other way, it is sickening, the list is so long-the suffering of billions of sacred lives inflicted upon the most innocent and defenseless and vulnerable among us. These precious, desperate lives are gifts for whose well-being we have been entrusted as caretakers, a test at which we are failing at miserably. Rescuing and protecting farm animals is my chance to fight back. I feel that I have a voice from within that is giving me clear direction, to know my path. Finding the courage to follow through is a choice, and it is that which defines who I am.
My dream is to turn my efforts into an operational place of peace by developing a children's farm for over 200 animals with hopes of making it a great stepping stone. I continually say "If people only knew". Education will be a crucial component. People will know, for one by one I plan to change the world for better, for the rewards of following the path of love...unimaginable! The true brilliance of the idea I believe is the opportunity for the children to meet and learn the stories of the animals and let them be the teachers (as happened to me through my rescued ones) and to experience the sacredness and pure joy of the gift of animals, farm life and the responsibility as caretakers. I plan to instill this information to them in a gentle way without shoving shocking images and stories that they are just too young to understand. Hopefully the gentility of my approach will plant seeds of knowledge, who knows what amazing fruit it will bear towards ending the worst of civilizations atrocities.
In addition to children, I hope that this farm will also educate adults. Education is it, or more accurately enlightenment, for we can educate (beat) people over the head with facts of the horror to no avail, the key is to help each individual find their unique path to bring out the knowledge, the truth from inside of themselves. I truly believe there is an untapped wealth of kindness, people who just don't know and who once aware will join the fight with vigor. I say this because of the light I have seen go off in conversations with strangers on this issue. And because I was also once in this situation, always loving animals but unable to imagine that human beings were capable of such acts of cruelty.
I hope to open the farm by spring and feel really blessed to have been able to meet many of you at the walk for farm animals in austin!
